Minjee Lee Defeats Charley Hull in Play-Off to Secure Kroger Queen City Championship

Minjee Lee sealed victory in the Kroger Queen City Championship by narrowly defeating Charley Hull in a play-off at the Kenwood Country Club in Ohio.

The 27-year-old Australian ranked world number five, began the final day with a two-shot advantage over the rest of the field and carded a 71 in the final round but England’s Hull carded a 69 which saw both end on 16 under to force a play-off.

The play-off took place on the par-four 18th with both players making par the first time round but on the second time replaying, Hull missed a birdie putt which Lee capitalized on by sinking her birdie putt to cement her ninth career victory on the LPGA Tour and her first since the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open.

“I had a few moments where I really felt like I was losing but I wasn’t,” she said. “I was like ‘let’s play to the end and see where we end up’.

“I really wanted to reset my goals here, finish off on a high and I got the win, which is nice.”

Hull’s second-place finish marks her fifth runner-up performance of the season.

China’s Ruoning Yin carded a 67 to secure third on 14 under while last year’s champion, Ally Ewing, ended this year’s tournament in fourth with a final-round 66 to finish on 12 under. There was a six-way tie for fifth which featured England’s Mel Reid, South Korea’s Mi Hyang Lee, Thailand’s Ariya Jutanugarn, Japan’s Yuka Saso, Switzerland’s Morgane Metraux, and Taiwan’s Peiyun chien.

The next event on the LPGA Tour, following the 2023 Solheim Cup, is the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship Presented by P&G taking place between 29 September – 1 October at the Pinnacle Country Club in Arkansas.
