Jesper Svensson clinched his first win on the DP World Tour with a play-off victory over Kiradech Aphibarnrat in the Singapore Classic.
The 29-year-old Swede shot a nine-under 63 in the final round at the Laguna National Golf Resort Club, a course-equalling record, to finish on 17 under, a total which Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat matched after he eagled the last to force a play-off.
The pair were neck-and-neck in the first two play-off holes after they both birdied the first and parred the second but the third ended up the decisive hole as Svensson came out on top.
“It’s been a lot of good golf so it was nice to finally come out on top,” Svensson said. “It’s very hard to win so it’s really nice.
“It’s been a long journey. To win on my first season out here, I couldn’t have dreamt of it. It’s always been a dream to be a winner… and to achieve it feels amazing.”
Overnight leader Australia’s David Micheluzzi fell away in the final round after hitting a final-round 73 to finish tied-seventh on 12 under alongside Spain’s Alejandro Del Rey, Wales’ Rhys Enoch, and India’s Shubhankar Sharma.
The next event on the DP World Tour schedule is Indian Open taking place between 28-31 March at DLF Golf and Country Club in India.
