Jon Rahm has reached an agreement with the DP World Tour allowing him to play on the circuit this season and ensuring he remains eligible to qualify for the next edition of the Ryder Cup in 2027.
The Spaniard had been involved in a long-running impasse with the European-based circuit ever since he defected to LIV Golf in December 2023. Since he made the switch, Rahm built up significant fines and had suspensions handed to him for taking part in ‘conflicting’ LIV Golf events whilst he was still a DP World Tour member.
Rahm refused to pay his outstanding fines which caused uncertainty over whether he would appear at the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black. However, he lodged an appeal against his punishments allowing him to represent Team Europe in their famous 15-13 away win which saw him play a crucial role.
But uncertainty over his Ryder Cup future increased further when the former world No. 1 was not part of the eight LIV Golf players the DP World Tour granted conditional release to take part in LIV Golf events this season in February.
However, the DP World Tour has confirmed that a deal has now been reached with the Legion XIII captain who is now set to pay off all the reported $3m in penalties he has accumulated.
A spokesperson from the circuit said: “The DP World Tour and Jon Rahm have come to an agreement on conditional releases to play in conflicting tournaments on LIV Golf during the remainder of its 2026 season.
“This involves payment of all outstanding fines accrued from 2024 to date, along with participation in agreed DP World Tour tournaments (outside the Majors) in the remainder of the 2026 season.”
While ahead of this week’s LIV Golf event in Virgina, Rahm confirmed that for the dispute to be resolved, both sides “had made concessions”.
The deal means that Rahm will be eligible for selection for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland. It also comes after Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund confirmed that it would strip funding from LIV Golf at the end of the season.
