Kevin Yu collected a first title on the PGA TOUR thanks to a play-off victory at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi.
The 26-year-old from Taiwan birdied the 15th and 18th at the Country Club of Jackson to close the final round with a clubhouse target 5-under 67 to finish on 23 under, a total which American Beau Hossler matched to force a play-off.
Both players returned to the 18th for the play-off which saw Yu overcome Hossler with a six-foot birdie to secure his first ever triumph on the PGA TOUR.
“It’s literally a dream come true. I’ve been dreaming of this since I was five years old,” said Yu after the win.
“I set a goal today, I thought if I could shoot five or six under I’d have a good chance. I was just focused on that and do the best I could on every shot and I did a pretty good job today.”
Yu had previously taken a break from the game for a month after taking part in a number of events over the summer including the Paris Olympics but returned for the Wyndham Championship in August.
“I feel like this week I was really calm and just feel like the little break from last month really helped me, just not thinking too much,” Yu added. “I took a little break and now I’m back and I just feel like my mind is really fresh.”
His Sanderson Farms Championship triumph has earned him $1.368m and guarantees him a place at next years Masters and cements his PGA TOUR membership up until 2026.
There was a tie for third between American duo Keith Mitchell and Lucas Glover.
What is the next event?
