Tyrrell Hatton recorded his third career win at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship with a narrow one-shot victory at St Andrews.
The 32-year-old Englishman went into the final day with a one-shot advantage after he matched the course record the previous day. Hatton extended his lead to three shots just after the halfway stage of the final round after hitting four birdies after 11 holes. But dropped shots at the 13th and 14th meant Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts caught up with the two-time Alfred Dunhill Links winner.
Both were level on 23 under as they approached the 18th. But Colsaerts missed his birdie attempt allowing Hatton to secure his third win in the event, adding to his 2016 and 2017 triumphs. Hatton capitalized on the opportunity, finishing on 24 under and claiming his first DP World Tour victory since the 2021 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
“It’s the first time I’ve actually won the tournament with my dad here so it means a lot and to do it at the home of golf is really special,” said Hatton.
“I’m trying not to cry, to be honest. I’m a bit lost for words.”
This victory has helped Hatton climb up to No. 20 in the world rankings and also secures him a place at the DP World Tour’s season-ending event in Dubai.
Compatriot Tommy Fleetwood finished in third on 21 under while there was a three-way tie for fourth which featured Denmark’s Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, Spain’s David Puig, and South Africa’s Robin Williams.
What is the next event?
The next event on the DP World Tour schedule is the FedEx Open de France taking place between 10-13 October at Le Golf National.
