Lauren Coughlin clinched her second career LPGA Tour triumph in as many weeks by storming to a four-shot victory at the Women’s Scottish Open.
The 31-year-old American came into the final day at Dundonald Links with a one-shot lead over fellow American Megan Khang but carded a three-under 69 which included three birdies in the final five holes to end the tournament on 15 under, four clear of Germany’s Esther Henseleit in second, who had recently secured a silver medal in the Paris Olympics.
Khang ended up finishing two shots further back in third alongside Japan’s Ayaka Furue while England’s Charley Hull ended in fifth due to a disappointing one-over 73 in the final round.
Coughlin’s maiden LPGA Tour triumph only came three weeks with ago at the Canadian Open and she has now quickly backed that victory up with her success here at the Women Scottish Open. This triumph means that she has now collected enough Solheim Cup points to secure one of the six automatic places for the highly-anticipated event next month in Gainesville, Virginia.
“I think if you would have told me [I would win two titles] – let alone at the beginning of this year but probably the beginning of last year – I probably wouldn’t believe you at all,” she said.
“But it’s incredible and it just shows how hard I’ve worked to get here. It’s amazing.”
What is the next event?
The next event on the LPGA Tour schedule is the AIG Women’s Open taking place between 22-25 August at St Andrews Old Course in Scotland.
