Nelly Korda extended her extraordinary winning run on the LPGA Tour to four consecutive victories by beating Ireland’s Leona Maguire in the T-Mobile Match Play in Las Vegas.
The 25-year-old, who’s ranked World No. 1, raced into a four-up lead over Maguire and then found herself five-up after 12 holes with six to play. Maguire showed fight with wins on 13 and 14 to put some pressure back on the American but ultimately it was not enough the challenge Korda who clinched victory with a par putt on the 15th.
“Going down the stretch, there is a different type of adrenaline. But I feel like with match play you have that from the first hole so it was a great day playing against Leona. Always such a great competitor. But happy to get my fourth,” Korda said.
“This golf course is so tough that pars are going to go a long way. Stay in your own bubble, hit fairways, hit greens, and try not to make mistakes, and I did that today.”
This victory means she has won on the LPGA Tour for the third consecutive week adding to her victories at the Seri Pak Championship and Ford Championship.
The record for the most consecutive victories on the tour is five shared with America’s Nancy Lopez and Sweden’s Annika Sorenstam, a record she will attempt to equal in the next event, the Chevron Championship taking place between 18-21 April at The Club at Carlton Woods in Texas.
