Top 10 Exciting New Courses Set to Open This Year
Pinehurst No. 10, Pinehurst, N.C.
Pinehurst Resort & Country Club in North Carolina is one of the most iconic golfing spots globally, mainly renowned for the No. 2 course that will host the U.S. Open in 2024. The country club features nine 18-hole courses and a 9-hole short one, but a Tom Doak-designed No. 10 course is in the works and set to open in April. The new course features rolling hills, a sweeping landscape, and native wiregrass, with the rugged dunes midway through the course forming a spectacular layout.
The Keep at McLemore (Rising Fawn, Ga.)
If you can deal with heights, you can enjoy teeing it off at 2,300 feet above sea level once The Keep at McLemore opens up in late 2024. This will be the second course on the location after the cliff-edge, par 71 McLemore Highlands Course, designed both by Bill Bergin and Rees Jones. The Keep promises to be the most dramatic of the two, sitting atop Lookout Mountain in Northwest Georgia and boasting stunning vistas and five cliff-edge holes.
Sedge Valley, Sand Valley Resort, Wisconsin
Many players have enjoyed unique golf experiences in the prehistoric sand dunes of central Wisconsin, and now there is something new – the Sedge Valley course. Tom Doak adds his enigmatic design magic to Sand Valley Resort, which already boasts several reputable courses such as Sand Valley, Sandbox, Mammoth Dunes, and The Lido. Sedge Valley is an 18-hole course set to open in 2024 and boasts prominent rock outcroppings and entertaining half-par holes.
New Faldo course at Royal Long An Golf & Villas, Vietnam
Thanks to the new course at Royal Long An Golf & Villas near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnamese golf has a reason to celebrate. Created by Faldo Design, the par 72, 18-hole golf course plays at 5,424 yards from the forward and 7,233 yards from the back tees, accommodating even novice golfers. The vast open flat spaces complement large fairway bunkers, large lakes, and trees, offering a tranquil golfing environment.
Herdade do Pinheirinho, Portugal
After more than a decade of dormancy after its completion, the Herdade do Pinheirinho course will open in 2024 on Portugal’s Costa Azul. Designed by Jorge Santana da Silva in 2012, the vast course stalled due to financial constraints. Nonetheless, the course will finally roar to life this year, sitting between CostaTerra by Fazio Design and David McLay Kidd’s Comporta Dunes. The course is located near the famed Terras da Comporta resort and boasts many features, such as four lakes and expansive, undulating greens.
