Doon Brae at The Highlands Resort (Harbor Springs, Mich.)
Doon Brae is Scottish for “downhillside,” a perfect description for the new par-3 course at The Highlands Resort, situated on a ski slope on the backside of the main lodge. The course is the eleventh among the Boyne Golf properties in Northern Michigan and will open in the summer of 2024. Key features include template greens inspired by the British Isles, several stacked wall bunkers, and only one tee marker on each hole for ease of play.
Shorty’s at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort (Bandon, Ore.)
Spring 2024 will mark the opening of the 19-hole Shorty’s course, named after the first caretaker of Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, Shorty Dow, a close friend of the proprietor Mike Keiser. The new course sits between the Pacific Ocean to the West and the first hole of Bandon Trails. Keith Cutten, Dave Axland, and Rod Whitman form the design team, encompassing scattered shore pines, rolling natural dunes, and numerous ocean views.
