Patton Kizzire sealed his first triumph on the PGA TOUR for six year thanks to a sublime five-shot victory at the Procore Championship.
The 38-year-old American entered the final round with a healthy four-shot lead but that lead was cut in half when fellow countryman and closest challenger David Lipsky sunk birdies on the first and fourth to put on the pressure. But Kizzire responded to that pressure with an impressive eagle putt at the par-five fifth.
The lead narrowed to just two once more when Lipsky when he picked up a shot at the 11th, a hole where Kizzire had dropped a shot. However, Kizzire held his nerve maintaining the lead when his got up and down the greenside bunker to birdie the par-five 12th followed by another birdie at the 13th. He then extended his advantage at the 15th and went onto to cruise to his third PGA TOUR triumph by finished with back-to-back pars.
“I’m going to enjoy this win,” Kizzire said. “It’s just so sweet to get through the ups and downs. That’s life. You just got to stay positive. That’s what led me to here, to right now.”
The Alabama native entered the tournament ranked outside the top 125 in the FedExCup standings but has now secured his PGA TOUR card for the next two years after claiming his first victory since the 2018 Sony Open in Hawaii.
David Lipsky hit a one-under 71 to finish in second on 15 under while Patrick Fishburn made it an American trio at the top of the leaderboard ending the tournament a shot further back on 14 under.
