Rickie Fowler Ends Four-Year Winless Drought at Rocket Mortgage Classic

Rickie Fowler sealed his first victory on the PGA TOUR since 2019 by overcoming Collin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin in a three-way play-off at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.

The 34-year-old American ended the day on 24-under alongside Morikawa and Hadwin thanks to a final-hole birdie to close a 68 at Detroit Golf Club. The play-off took place at the par-four 18th where Fowler edged the others by rolling a birdie to end his barren winless run.

This is Fowler’s sixth PGA TOUR victory and fist since the WM Phoenix Open in February 2019.

“It’s hard to really put it all into words,” Fowler said. “Obviously there has been a lot of good stuff this year and I’ve been playing some really good golf, so I knew it was just a matter of time with how I’ve been playing.”

Fowler began the final day with a one-shot lead after hitting impressive form on the Saturday, sinking six birdies in the final eight holes. Morikawa was four strokes behind Fowler and three behind Hadwin but a run of seven birdie in the first 14 holes meant he climbed the leaderboard while Hadwin’s bogey-free day meant all three ended on 24-under.

But Fowler triumphed in the play-off on the first hole after both Morikawa and Hadwin were unable to match his birdie on the 18th.

The American trio of Peter Kuest, Taylor Moore, and Lucas Glover all tied for fourth after finishing on 21-under.

The next event on the PGA TOUR is the John Deere Classic taking place between July 6-9 at TPC Deere Run in Illinois.
