World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the PGA TOUR’s season-opening event, The Sentry, after suffering from a hand injury whilst readying Christmas dinner.

The two-time major winner was set to take part in the signature event between 2-5 January but he has now been ruled out for three to four weeks due to a cut on his hand which required surgery.

A statement released by the American’s manager, Blake Smith, read: “On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass.

“Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery.

“He has been told that he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry.”

Scottie Scheffler arguably had his best year of golf in 2024 after he dominated the PGA TOUR with seven victories as well as scooping the Golf medal in the Paris Olympics. He has won the 2024 FedExCup title and was awarded as the PGA TOUR’s Player of the Year for the third time in a row.

In the year, Scheffler’s scoring average was the lowest ever on the PGA TOUR for a season and he also ranked first in strokes gained on approach shots and second in strokes gained off the tee.
