Driving irons are a bit of an exclusive club with only a select few on the market when compared to other clubs. However, TaylorMade have added to the options available with the release of the new TaylorMade P790 UDI, the ultimate driving iron.

Most sets of irons start at 3-iron or lower, creating a gap in distance for some golfers between a 3-wood or 5-wood. This is where TaylorMade are cleverly pitching the TaylorMade P790 UDI; it can also act as an alternative to the lower woods and hybrids that you may have in your bag.

Professional equipment

It’s safe to say that TaylorMade are leaving nothing to chance when it comes to providing golfers with the perfect blend of equipment in their bag.

The all-new forged P790 irons have proven to be extremely popular ever since their release over six months ago. Many professional golfers have already added them to their bags. The M3 and M4 drivers and woods that also followed are keeping TaylorMade at the top of the tree when it comes to golf club manufacturing.

Now there is the driving iron to add to the continued growth from TaylorMade, who have created the Ultimate Driving Iron (UDI) to fit perfectly into the P790 range of irons.

Quality recognized by the game’s best

Driving irons aren’t for everyone. But the likes of Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day—among others—have clearly found the TaylorMade P790 UDI to be beneficial to their game, having all had it in their bag during recent tournaments.

The driving iron includes the SpeedFoam technology—that is a key feature of the P790s—inside a hollow body. It essentially just extends the range up to a 2-iron set to 17 degrees.

The unique SpeedFoam works in two ways: it increases ball speed as well as manages the sound and feel when it comes to ball striking. It is a unique technology that has allowed the P790s to stand out from the crowd.

The driving iron is produced in a carbon steel construction and also features TaylorMade’s Inverted Cone Technology to create a compact face without losing any forgiveness when it comes to off centre strikes.

Made after ‘increasing demand’

“After experiencing increasing demand from the best golfers on worldwide tours, we’re excited to bring the Ultimate Driving Iron to golfers everywhere with the new P790 UDI,” Tomo Bystedt, Senior Director of Product Creation at TaylorMade Golf said.

“Offering SpeedFoam in a driving iron for the first time ever, the TaylorMade P790 UDI delivers distance and accuracy like never before seen in an iron.”

The UDI produces incredible distance without compromising accuracy from the tee; it is an ideal addition for golfers who struggle to find fairways with woods or drivers. It will only be available to purchase for right-handed golfers, though, so left-handed golfers will have to continue to hone those woods!

A product superbly named

If there is a need for you to have a driving iron in the bag, whether you want to replicate the famous Tiger Woods stinger—you know, that tee shot with the incredibly low ball flight—or ensure you can make those longer shots with confidence, then seriously consider the TaylorMade P790 UDI. It really is the Ultimate Driving Iron and has been superbly named.
