How Joaquin Neimann won in 2022
Joaquin Niemann opened with rounds of 63-63 and led all the way, though there were some tight moments in the final round before the Chilean claimed his second PGA TOUR victory. Niemann led by two strokes through 36 holes and three through 54. Cameron Young cut the margin to one through seven holes of the final round before a two-stroke swing in Niemann’s favor on No. 8. Niemann then chipped in for an eagle on the 11th to go ahead by five. It wasn’t done yet, as two Niemann bogeys and a Young birdie cut the margin to two with three to play. Young bogeyed 16 so a birdie on 17 only brought him within two—and tied for second with late-charging Collin Morikawa—as Niemann parred the last two holes to clinch the victory.
- Niemann had eagles in each of the last three rounds, No. 1 on Friday, No. 10 on Saturday and No. 11 on Sunday.
- Niemann had a 31, a 30 and a 32 on the par-35 front nine in the first three rounds (his second nine in the first round).
- Niemann had a total of 7.41 strokes gained on approach shots in the first two rounds and ranked first for the week with a total of 7.09.
