Professional Career & What to Expect
Rose Zhang announced her decision to turn pro on May 26, 2023, while serving her sophomore year at Stanford. Though she indicated that she plans to complete her degree at Stanford despite her busy schedule as a professional LPGA player, the star has already started reaping big from the pro league.
Zhang’s first tournament as a professional player was at the Mizuho Americas Open in June 2023, where she surprised many by becoming the first female golfer to win in her pro debut on the LPGA Tour since 1951. The bona fide record-breaker stunned Jennifer Kupcho on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff to lift the title.
Zhang now has star-filled events to look ahead to, such as the remaining four majors: U.S. Women’s Open, the Women’s British Open, the KPMG Women’s PGA at Baltusrol, and the Amundi Evian Championship in France. The champion received special exemptions for the two Opens, held at Pebble Beach and Walton Heath respectively. For the latter two majors, Zhang had qualified as an amateur.
She has also confirmed attendance for a series of other LGPA events such as the Canadian Women’s Open, the Kroger Queen City Championship in Cincinnati, and the Dana Open near Toledo, Ohio. Any top-10 finish will also see her qualify for other tour events. It’s safe to say that Rose Zhang is now flying in the skies of big money!
Parting Shot
Many golf fans are already comparing the stunning career of Rose Zhang to that of Tiger Woods, given that she tends to win almost all the time. Now that she is frying with the big fish, the star is bound to work harder, which means that we might be looking at a very successful LPGA season ahead.
