Adrian Meronk responded to his Ryder Cup snub in impressive fashion after producing a stunning final-round comeback to secure a thrilling victory at the Estrella Damm N.A Andalucia Masters.
The 30-year-old from Poland, who was not included as part of Luke Donald’s six captains picks for the 2023 Ryder Cup a month ago, came back from four-strokes behind on the final day to record a 6-under 66, which featured two eagles and four birdies to finish on 16 under and claim his fourth career DP World Tour title, his third in 2023.
“I’m just glad the Ryder Cup and all the talks about it are over,” Meronk said following his triumph. “I can just focus on my game, keep going forward. Whoever doubted me, I hope I can prove them wrong.”
Overnight co-leaders Matti Schmid and Jeff Winther, who both held onto the lead for the majority of the tournament, finished in second and sixth respectfully after Schmid could not manage to force a play-off on the final hole and Winther hit a two-over 74.
Adrian Otaegui, the defending champion, found himself in a tie for ninth place on 10 under alongside France’s Matthieu Pavon and Victor Perez and Denmark’s Thorbjørn Olesen.
The next event on the DP World Tour is the Qatar Masters taking place between 26-29 October at Doha Golf Club.
