Coeur D’Alene Resort Golf: The Course With the Floating Green

No golf fan reading this will not have a bucket list of courses they would love to play. Augusta National, The Old Course, TPC Sawgrass, Winged Foot and Pebble Beach, to name a few that will be on most of lists. Adding to that should be a lesser-known course tucked away in the Pacific Northwest. Although not known for its history or PGA Tour pedigree, it is a stunning golf course known for its floating green, the only one in the world.

The world’s first and only moving island green can play anywhere from a short wedge to brutally long iron off the tee. You take a small boat to the island to play your second shot.

The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course truly is an unforgettable golfing experience to be enjoyed along the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene. This course ranks amongst the best in the world, famous for its unique pampering service and impeccably manicured course.

A round of golf at this spectacular, award-winning course includes:

  • High-speed lake shuttle transportation to and from The Coeur d’Alene Resort.
  • Personal forecaddie service.
  • Over-water lakefront practice tee.
  • Luxury golf carts with touchscreen GPS and views over the lake will take your breath away at almost every hole.

The big draw and also the most significant challenge of the lakeside course is, without doubt, the famous floating gree, a wonder of engineering, the world’s only floating yet movable green, controlled to varying differences daily by computer. A uniquely designed electric boat named ‘Putter’ ferries golfers to the island on the par 3, 14th hole, following their tee shot.

Island

For any amateur golfers, landing the ball on the island will become a moment to cherish forever—a lifetime of regret, though, for those who add bodies to the waterside graveyard. Regardless, you cannot fail to treasure the experience of The Coeur d’Alene Resort golf.

Coeur d’Alene’s famous green isn’t the only unique thing up its sleeve.

Each cart is embellished with extra nautical features that give each one a unique look. They have touchscreen GPS and heated seats.

Another noteworthy feature is that the range faces out over the water; each splash after an excellent connection is a great feeling and visual.

A ten-minute complimentary pre-round massage with each tee time is also a very nice feature of this beautiful course.

Beautiful

For any golfer staying at the resort, it’s impossible to put into words how beautiful the views over the lake are. If only every morning began with a view and a serenity that you will find at Coeur d’Alene.

It is not uncommon to hear both amateurs and pros alike praising Coeur d’Alene as the most memorable course and the most fun course they have played.

The course is a friendly course to play; it’s as memorable in itself as all the other features and perks on offer. The fairways and greens funnel inwards, offering a lot of good luck in the bounces. It isn’t an overly long course, and you get the feeling the course wants you to shoot low and leave it feeling great.

The local rule that any shot in the bushes on the right-hand side is a free drop is one that many golfers could quickly get used to.

The course is always in impeccable condition, so all things considered, a round at Coeur d’Alene is an extraordinary and memorable occasion.

Coeur d’Alene Resort has three par 3’s within its first six holes, and each of the three are very fun and very different to play. On almost any other course in the world, any one of them would be the signature hole – and don’t forget the island par three once you reach the 14th.

Experience

Everything you experience leading up to the 14th hole is brimming with hints and building anticipation. It doesn’t disappoint. The green is more extensive and easier to hit than many expect but make no mistake, on windy days and at a maximum distance, it can present a real challenge.

The one minute ride out to the green onboard ‘Putter’ is gimmicky as hell, but it’s fun and memorable.

Once you hole out, the skipper will prepare and present you with a certificate of completion.

The personalized bag tag you receive after your round is just a further example of the small touches that make playing Coeur d’Alene such a great golfing experience.
