Dan Bradbury came out on top of a tightly-congested pack of contenders to earn a narrow one- shot victory at the FedEx Open de France.
The 25-year-old Englishman came into the final round at Le Golf National two shot behind then-leader Jesper Svensson of Sweden and was one of 11 players who shared the lead towards the closing stages of what was a congested event. However, Bradbury managed to pull ahead of the pack with three consecutive birdies from the 14th, helping him to card a final-round 66 and finish on 16 under, securing his second DP World Tour title.
“Obviously got lucky off the tee but I feel like I’ve had a few bad breaks this week so quite nice to get a good one there,” Bradbury said speaking to Sky Sports following his triumph.
“And then just pushed it [the second shot], straight up pushed it and luckily it stayed on [the green]. Hit a horrendous putt that went in and sometimes you just need that.
“Once I’d done that, I was like ‘It doesn’t feel like my day, but there’s definitely something going for me’.”
Prior to the event, Bradbury was placed 98th in the Race to Dubai Rankings but will now propel up to 25th following his victory, meaning he will be able to take part in the season-ending events on the tour in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
“The goal this week was to make the cut so I don’t have to go to Korea and try to keep my card, to be honest with you, so to hear that sounds pretty good,” he said.
“I guess I’ll be looking at flights to Dubai then.”
Danish duo Jeff Winter and Thorbjon Olesen, England’s Sam Bairstow, and Germany’s Yannik Paul finished the event tied-second on 15 under with the former two failing to force a play-off.
