The Longest Drives of All Time

The Longest Drives of All Time

Jeff Sluman – 473 yards

Coming in sixth is Jeff Sluman, who hit a drive of 473 yards. The player achieved this feat during the 2003 Bob Hope Chrysler Championship at PGA West (Palmer). On the 14th hole of the second round, the former PGA Champion found a dash of good fortune, hitting his career’s longest and most memorable drive.

Charley Hoffman – 467 yards

Golf fans and tournament attendees witnessed pure magic at the LaCantera Golf Club (Resort) during the 2009 Texas Open. Charley Hoffman was negotiating the first hole of the third round when Lady Luck smiled at him. Unlike most golfers who perform all manner of theatrics visualizing a shot before striking it, Hoffman just stepped up and hit a drive, effectively landing in the books of history.

Dustin Johnson – 463 yards

As the only entrant appearing twice on this list, it’s indisputable that Dustin Johnson is one of this generation’s most gifted ball drivers. During the fourth round of the 2011 Deutsche Bank at TPC Boston, the golfer struck a 463-yard drive on the 7th hole, almost covering the hole’s entire 600 yards.

Justin Thomas – 457 yards

The 2019 WGC-Mexico Championship at Club de Golf Chapultepec was one of Thomas’ favorite tournaments, as he hit a stunning drive of 457 yards on the 10th hole of the third round.

David Duval – 454 yards

Our tenth entry takes us back to the Bob Hope Chrysler Championship at PGA West (Palmer), this time during the 2002 edition. The star was David Duval, hammering a thrilling 454-yard drive on the 13th hole of the fifth round. Duval’s lifting weights routine paid off with this powerful drive, with his calm, collected demeanor.

The Bottomline

Most golfers can agree that hitting a long, accurate drive is one of the most satisfying experiences on the course. Through a combination of power, technique, and advancements in equipment and technology, golfers, such as those listed above, have showcased their attributes when swinging their driver. But with the recent news of the golf rollback plans, who knows what the future holds for big hitting.
