With summer now firmly behind us and shorter days, longer nights and cooler and wetter golf weather in store, it is time to dust off the waterproofs in preparation for some unpleasant conditions out on the course.

If you are not a fair-weather golfer and do play through the colder winter months, then a set of rain gear that performs the required job without hampering your performance is a must. No golf bag is complete without it.

The one downside of having to wear waterproofs during winter golf is the impact additional layers have on the golf swing. Too many items of clothing can often result in additional shots, so finding a waterproof jacket that is light yet still protects you from the elements—wind as well as rain—is crucial.

Step in ProQuip and the impressive Tour Lite jacket. You might guess from the name that it is lite, but what it doesn’t tell you is that this is the lightest golf rain jacket that ProQuip has ever made. It is 50 percent lighter than the Ultralite jacket, also in the ProQuip range.

If you’ve not heard of ProQuip, they are a leading manufacturer of waterproof, rain and windproof golf attire at generally reasonable prices. They have been the manufacturer of waterproof outfits for both the European and United States Ryder Cup teams.

The Tour Lite jacket is among the best-selling products on offer as it is an all-year-round item that can even be a benefit when you’re out on the course in gales or gentle winds. The jacket weighs just 277g. It doesn’t take up much room in your bag when you are not wearing it either, as it folds to just 15 x 12 cm.

The Tour Lite jacket is produced from an ultra-lightweight knitted outer fabric, which stretches in four directions and therefore provides freedom both in general wear and during a golf swing. It is the first product for which ProQuip have used a knitted waterproof design.

There is a rear pocket above the lower back for storing a scorecard, yardage book, glove or anything else you need to keep dry (this is a great benefit compared to similar products from rival manufacturers of golf waterproofs), adjustable Velcro around the wrists and an elasticated waistband for preferred fit.

Available in three color schemes—true blue and black (navy), black and true blue (black) and brilliant blue (light blue)—every Tour Lite jacket comes with a 3-year waterproof guarantee from ProQuip. You can rest assured your money won’t be washed away within a year of buying it.

The Tour Lite jacket is fairly reasonably priced and it is definitely worth considering adding it to your bag. If you want an incredibly light, waterproof jacket that performs well in all weathers—and a layer than you can also wear in windy conditions throughout the year—then this is the product for you.
